About 'Out of the Box'
Out of the Box (Scotland) Ltd is a regulated Scottish Charity SC 035701, set up in 2004 to provide Christian outreach using puppetry, song and other forms of performing arts.
Out of the Box was created by Chris Watt and in September 2009 he took up the full-time position of Children's Worker. Then in October 2011,Carol Hutchison, came onboard as our part-time Associate Children's Worker.
Out of the Box has served many schools, churches and other organisations across Scotland. Whether it is through a school assembly, a workshop, a one-off event or in the classroom we seek to develop children’s physical, mental, spiritual and emotional well-being. We want to encourage children to be both confident individuals and responsible citizens. We have found that giving children a “hands on” experience is the best way to engage interest and to ensure we achieve our aim of child development. Giving the space and opportunity to explore creative arts for themselves in an unthreatening, lively way enables every child to contribute – we recognise that every child is unique and special.
Out of the Box is run by a Board of Directors who provide their services on a voluntary basis. We meet on a quarterly basis where we discuss everything from finance to buying new puppets. Out of the Box would certainly not be where it is now without the support of these enthusiastic and gifted folks.
Financially we are supported by a number of families who give on a regular basis. We also charge for our services to schools and churches but this cost is purposefully kept low to make what we offer accessible to as many schools and churches as possible. We have also had financial support from the Parish Development Fund through the Church of Scotland and The Souter Foundation. You can find out more about this and other funders who have donated to Out of the Box on our Support Us page.
